**Stage 1 - Scaffold in:**
Write with all the explanations, connections, transitions, and interpretations visible. Dont worry about subtlety.

**Stage 2 - Draft with scaffold:**

**Stage 3 - Identify scaffold:**
Mark what is explanation vs. image, telling vs. showing

**Stage 4 - Remove scaffold:**
Cut the explanations. Let images and actions carry meaning.

**Stage 5 - Test:**
Does the poem stand without the scaffold?
