2. THE RELOCATION TEST
- Could this scene happen elsewhere in the story?
- Why is THIS the only place it works?

3. THE COMBINATION TEST
- Could this merge with the scene before or after?
- What prevents combination?

4. THE PURPOSE STATEMENT
- Complete: "Only in this scene does [X] happen."
- If you can't complete it, the scene may be expendable.

5. VERDICT FOR EACH:
- ESSENTIAL: Cannot be cut, combined, or moved
- MERGE CANDIDATE: Should combine with another
- RELOCATE: Works better elsewhere
- CUT: Story survives without it
